Living 250 miles away from my family and fiancée means I make a lot of trips to go to visit them. A good way to help finance these trips is by ridesharing. I post an ad on Craigslist saying where I'm going, and people respond asking for a ride. I charge them a bit of money, depending on how far I take them, and we talk and listen to music the whole while. It seems a bit sketchy, but I've never had an issue with it.
The email I got isn't about ridesharing though. It's about ChumpCar and LeMons. Back in January, I gave an incredibly nice older gentleman a ride from Southern Oregon to Portland. On this trip, it was revealed that we had a common interest: automobiles. He talked about his NA Miata, his BMWs that he'd owned throughout the years, and his abilities to do pretty much anyhting under the sun with metal. It was by far and away the best rideshare experience I've had to date.
By the time we got to Portland, he told me that the next time I was down in Southern Oregon to give him a call and we'd take a look at doing th rear disk brake conversion on my car that'd I'd been wanting to do for some time.
Me being an antisocialite, of course I never called him back. I just told myself excuses like, "well, I'm only in town for 3 days," or, "I'm sure he was just being nice."
The thought that he was just being nice was dispelled this morning when I received an email from him telling me that he's opening up a shop up here in the the Portland area, and perhaps I could bring my car in there. More importlantly though, he asked me if I'd be interested in crewing for a ChumpCar or LeMons team.
I immediately responded expressing my interest. Hopefully It all comes together!

That's brilliant. I've dreamed of starting a Chumpcar team but I have few friends who like cars enough and fewer that have the money for it.
